Wieland Shunts

Shunt resistors play a crucial role in current measurement. These components, also known as current-sensing resistors, enable highly precise measurements using a simple measurement principle and a low offset, thanks to their low resistance values (25, 50, & 100 µOhm).

We are the first distributor in Europe to offer high-quality standard shunts from Wieland-Werke AG. Wieland-Werke AG, headquartered near Ulm, is a leading global specialist in the production of semi-finished products made from copper and copper alloys. The shunts are manufactured using the company's own IATF-compliant alloys by the Engineered Products business unit of Wieland-Werke AG

High-voltage shunts are primarily used in battery management systems (BMS), intelligent battery sensors (IBS), and smart electricity meters (smart meters). The shunt is the core element for measuring electrical currents, enabling the monitoring, verification, and analysis of processes such as charging, battery status (state of charge/state of health), and remaining range in e-mobility. The resistor alloy specially developed by Wieland is particularly notable for its low temperature coefficient of electrical resistance and its low thermal electromotive force against copper. This is essential for ensuring accurate measurement of high currents across a wide measurement range.

Shunts are frequently used in power-intensive sectors such as industry and automotive, but are increasingly being adopted in building technology as well. Especially considering the rapid growth of e-mobility and renewable energies, along with the associated demands, the high-quality shunt resistors from Wieland Werke AG, with their various dimensions and performance ratings (35/50W), form the foundation for a wide range of end applications.
